People have often asked me why I do not drive.
If I am being perfectly honest, it’s because it simply costs too much to run a car. There are so many different things to pay out for. For starters, you have to apply for a license, pay for driving lessons, theory and practical tests, buying the car itself, insurance, road tax, MOT, petrol… and then you’ve got to worry about what to do if you have an accident. You’re always hearing stories about people who take their car into a garage for a simple oil change and end up coming out with a completely new engine. How can you be sure you won’t get ripped off??
For example, last year my friend Hafizul bought a beautiful Acura Integra which is now a complete wreck as he unfortunately totalled it after having it for only about five weeks. He took it to specialist after specialist only to be constantly told different things by each of them. I remember him virtually on the verge of tears over the stress the car had caused him and the money he was being forced to fork out over it.
If only there was a website which made it easier, I thought to myself. Then about a week later just by sheer coincidence, I discovered a site called repairpal.com whilst browsing online. They provide unbiased information about various different models of car, offer impartial advice and gave a rough estimate for all kinds of tune up so that if you’re not a very experienced motorist then you can get an idea for what exactly is a fair price. If only I’d have known about it a week before, I could have saved Hafizul all that trouble.
